Jadrolinija's 2026 Stari Grad car-ferry timetable covers 7 Apr – 31 Dec; winter times before that are not on file. Rough means waves of 2 m or gusts of 70 km/h, when catamarans may be cancelled. Choppy means waves of 1 m or gusts of 45 km/h: a bumpy ride, usually still running. These are hvaro's thresholds, not the operators'. March has had the most unsettled days.
Catamaran or car ferry?
Take the catamaran if you are on foot
It lands in Hvar Town harbour, a short walk from the old town and most rooms. It is faster, but catamarans are the first boats cancelled in strong wind, and summer sailings can sell out. Buy ahead from the operator in July and August.
Take the car ferry if you have a car, or the sea is rough
Jadrolinija's car ferry runs to Stari Grad on the north side of the island, about 20 minutes by bus from Hvar Town. It runs all year, carries cars and foot passengers, and usually keeps sailing when catamarans stop. Car spaces fill on summer weekends; arrive early.
